Jeppiar is a stal(e)wart of Tamil Culture

I came across a Times Now exclusive on engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu this morning. They were ripping apart this college for the stupid rules they have in place. I instantly sent text messages to friends. And the college chancellor Mr. Jeppiar, may he live forever torturing unsuspecting engineering students, gave this absurd explanation for not allowing girls and boys to talk to each other.

This is Tamil culture. This is education and they should concentrate only on that. If we are not strict then at least 40 percent will stray. We allow them to talk during studies, discussions and all that, but not outside the classrooms, at bus stands and other places. We are strict.”

Tamil culture?! What? How? If may I remind Mr. Jeppiar that his late mentor, Mr. M. G. Ramachandran made an acting career out of it, traipsing around trees and orchids with the opposite sex. Why do they even bring Tamil culture in here? It’s in your own warped minds! Leave the culture alone!

Actually, Mr. Jeppiar is an excellent businessman. He obviously cashed in on the fear that grips parents that their daughters are no longer safe in their own houses. This probably should be made the university’s motto. ‘A safe haven for your daughters’ and/or ‘No girl can seduce your son’. Heck, Times Now report just made the institution popular across states, especially across North India. Want to read more on this? Here.

Hell yeah, Arun. You got it spot on in the last paragraph. Finally, thank god someone else noticed. Nobody ever notices that that is the problem. Thank you.

Ha ha, you sent text messages to your friends and Jeppiar replied? That conjured up this image of a principal sitting in a huge warehouse of confiscated phones replying to messages one each of them.

  2. Marc Says:

Well said. Like I said, it is the fault of the parents for encouraging all this.

George, your thought processes are seriously messed up.

  3. Marc Says:

Pretty good title too, by the way.

  4. Arun Says:

George, yeah, people always thought I had this eye for detail. My mom claimed so until I told her cooking is no good. You never know how touchy people are.

And your conjured image is awesome. A cartoon strip like that will be a instant hit!

Marc, parents in India expect you to slog it out right from childhood. They obviously will be annoyed if you get distracted by boys and/or girls. It’s their job to woo a suitable girl/boy for you. My friends and I call it ‘Legal Prostitution’. Arranged marriage, that is.

  5. Marc Says:

That’s stupid. Legal prostitution is what you find in Germany and Australia.

  6. Adithya Says:

    Jeppiar is great da.

  7. Vinod Says:

Even I saw the news and wrote a post on that. I was shocked to hear him saying that it’s Tamil culture!!!!! How come this comes into our culture????

  8. Marc Says:

He’s correct. This is what they mean by Tamil culture.

  9. Arun Says:

Marc, I likened it legal prostitution. Or simply in Tamil, it’s ‘maama’ work.

Vinod, welcome. I watched it twice to confirm it’s Tamil culture is what he said. I came across this rumour/theory behind Jeppiar’s Tamil culture bullshit. His daughter or some one close to him eloped with some guy. So he took a vow to protect the dignity of Tamil culture and its women.

  10. MANOJ Says:

Horrible , to see such terrible constraints embossing on the innocent students. What is this? gals and boys should not speak to each other. He has to proove that even after allowing them to speak , they are good and clean in their habits , then that;s the real guts, thats the reallity of the institution he runs….. instead, if he will do like this then that’s the flaw on his part, Will he be suspecting his own daughters as they escaped from the house on selecting their own boy friends.. Horrible Jeppiar!Horrible rules! recently i heard that he terminated nearly 30 of the staff of sathyabama with out even telling them the reason for termination, Is he a dictatorial person..so cruel and injustice are his part….this is not good for jeppiar….God will punish him…..

  11. Arun Says:

Manoj, why should students ever reveal what they do or not do in their private lives? Why should students forgo their fun and friendship just to prove his point?

  12. Marc Says:

You didn’t understand what Manoj said. He says that Jeppiar must let people converse and then show to parents and everyone else that the system is workable.

The problem is why must people be good and clean? There is nothing wrong with being bad and dirty.
