DC - Depravity At Its Best

What? WHAT? WHAT??
Alright, how low will a national newspaper stoop to attract readership base?
“Get both sides of the story” one says and the other one says “Institute releases vital statistics”. And I’m on the look out for any other DC hoardings in the city with a more smuttier tag line.
6,07,446 copies of DC in circulation in Andhra Pradesh, it says. No surprise there… ![]()
I’m not that big fan of DC but I know some who are. I find DC extremely obsessed with page 3 celebrities. Who cares what parties they hit after sun-down? Every page you turn in the supplement, there’s a obscure celebrity staring back at you.
I’m not endorsing The Hindu either. Yes, it tends to get boring sometimes but at least it doesn’t put up hoardings all around the city claiming ‘Institute releases vital statistics’ on some model’s breasts. You get my drift.
Btw, I found this picture in this dude’s blog.

You diss Deccan Chronicle? Atleast they have creative ads. The Hindu’s ads will be something like an 80 year old holding the paper and drinking coffee and saying “I am getting good news stuff.”
Horrible blog theme. Can barely read the text.

The Hindu ads are plain. They go like these, ‘Always Classic. Always contemporary’. No models. At least they believe in ethical conduct.
You call it creative, I call it daringly lewd.

It’s not depraved. It’s not obscene. You’re just outdated.
June 22nd, 2007 at 2:15 pm
Change theme. I have to highlight the text to read comfortably.
DC does seem to be oddly concerned with the Page 3 factor. But I have no qualms about their advertising. They’re projecting the content to their target audience. Most people who find this kind of thing inappropriate wouldn’t care whats going on in say.. the world of football.

Yes, it does say ‘For young minds’ but not all young minds are so drawn to say… what’s going on in an actor’s life after his/her stupid divorce or whether Tinkerbell really deserves to serve the sentence along with her mistress… and the advertisement just seems to indicate this…
I agree the ad is appropriate for the paper but the paper is not appropriate for the so-called young minds.
June 23rd, 2007 at 8:18 am
It’s definitely more interesting than the Indian politics shit in The Hindu.
Who made you the one who decides whether it is appropriate or not?
June 23rd, 2007 at 12:20 pm
Yeah, who made you the one to veto my decision?
June 24th, 2007 at 11:37 am
You didn’t have the right to make that decision for everyone.
June 24th, 2007 at 12:35 pm
Do they approve of my decision? If they did then your comment is justified.
June 30th, 2007 at 10:01 am
They didn’t say “For all young minds” nor did they say “For young minds only”. Everyone is entitled an opinion and freedom of speech so long as he/she doesn’t hurt sentiments of others. .

How can every single person approve of your ‘decision’? You presumed too much. You probably like reading about Indian politics in The Hindu but some people want more interesting news.

Suren, I’m talking about the way they try to mislead people under a pretense of providing exciting information, whether it is exciting or not is debatable. I’m drawing attention only to the way that they are trying to market themselves to the public which is nowhere near to what they should be aiming for.
Marc, interesting news? I agree with you on the paper being laden with political news. It’s the same way I feel about the DC being full of celebrity gossip. If you like reading them, I can understand.
Also I have some positive things to say about DC. Their sports coverage is excellent.
July 1st, 2007 at 10:11 pm
DC ROCKS! And the reason they put that in model’s breast is cos thats where u end up staring! you wouldn have noticed it otherwise
July 2nd, 2007 at 9:07 am
I was talking about the main DC paper, which you obviously ignore in favour of Chennai Chronicle.
July 2nd, 2007 at 12:20 pm
Soorya, of course, I’m not denying that. Read my previous comments please.
Marc, sports section is in the main DC paper. I like it. Also, redirecting to other pages to read the remaining portion of some article is annoying.
July 2nd, 2007 at 4:32 pm
My previous comment was more of an admonishment to Marc than to you da, Arun.
I can’t really comment on DC now because its been a long time since I’ve read the DC.
July 2nd, 2007 at 4:43 pm
Arun, the point is that the main DC paper contains high quality articles that are not about Indian politics and do not cover celebrities.
July 2nd, 2007 at 10:00 pm
you actually read main dc paper??
July 3rd, 2007 at 5:52 am
I buy it for the main paper. It’s damn good.
July 3rd, 2007 at 1:12 pm
See? Adhitya doesn’t even recognize the main DC paper. Now this is what I’m talking about. They are more drawn to the Chennai chronicle section.
July 3rd, 2007 at 9:17 pm
haha deay everyone isnt like u da… i was joking about the main paper and i prefer chennai chronicle only because they have football news and not for boobs..
July 4th, 2007 at 11:31 am
So you say, Adithya.
August 12th, 2007 at 4:20 am
DC is an okay newspaper. Most of their good stuff is just a reprint of other newspapers so if you get your news from elsewhere it’s useless.
The Chennai Chronicle has two crosswords. That’s twice you get from The Hindu for half the price.
Their ads are perfect. They’re advertising straight to those who’d find their newspaper interesting. Besides, there’s nothing wrong with sex, see.
August 12th, 2007 at 6:45 am
Correct. Arun is just outdated.

[...] I was just browsing the BBC Feed and came upon this article about a controversial RyanAir ad. It’s pretty obvious what they’re trying to pull here, but frankly, it’s not all that offensive or anything. I’ve always wondered about people who get offended by stuff like this - what are they thinking? Perhaps, Oh my god, teenage girls will think they’ll get low fares if they dress like that! or maybe They’re insulting the dignity of the young women of the country. They are against British culture.. I can just imagine what would happen if those ads were displayed here. Actually, I don’t have to, I just know there’ll be more car accidents. [...]
