The Curious Incident Of The ‘Modem’ In The Night-Time

The working of my UT star modem still puzzles me. It works perfectly fine in the day time. The connection disruption is infrequent as compared to the night-time. Below are the steps I ’solely’ found for uninterrupted connection in the night.

Step 1: Try switching on the modem after tugging and replugging all the connections.

Step 2: Browse for a while and keep an eye on the modem links for any sudden interruption.

Step 3: If so, repeat step 1.

Step 4: In case the modem links never establish try making a call using the jack pin that connects the modem (I don’t use the splitter and I hear crackling noise while making the call). Now plug the jack back into the modem.

Step 5: Bingo! The connection sputters to life with all the links flickering & blinking. Happy uninterrupted browsing! (roughly 2-3 hours after which the above procedures are to be repeated again)

Where do you suppose lies the problem? Modem or the Airtel connection? I strongly believe that its the latter.

Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels

Awesome!

I’m really bored so I thought of posting something. And I’m really pissed at my semester results. So what the hell, here’s a post. Coincidently, I was watching this movie for like the fourth time when I got to know the results were out for us. So I paused the movie and checked my results. I was, you know, that feeling when your results aren’t very good & a train of thoughts, emotions and whatnots rattle the tracks of your brain. What’s that feeling again, yes, guilty. I resumed watching the movie. This movie really took my mind off the results (only for the time being).

This is a movie about four Londoners who garner a whopping 1 million pounds to play poker with a local ‘gizmo’ shop owner. They lose and what ensues is a complete pandemonium with typically extraordinary British humour chipped in. Each character is distinct and funny in its own ways.

The cast is just perfect and blends well with the storyline. It’s pretty much like Pulp Fiction & Snatch, where incidents of all the characters are somewhat interconnected, but goddamn side-splitting fun all the way to the end.

A must see movie. Oh and watch out for Mr. Rory breaker. He’s hilarious. And you know what, it was released in 1999.

Multiplex Industry in the Dark Waters

Prepare to bid adieu to the movie going experience in Chennai come January 1st. Thanks to the Government fixing the rates which would only shunt the number of people going to movie halls in the city at least.

I’m very well convinced that Chennai is becoming some sort of test facility to evaluate particular schemes and services over the long run oblivious to the city’s populace. First the CAS, now this and other absurd ones that appeared sporadically through out and made it to the front page of newspapers. They all were implemented with least resistance from the people.

The plight of Mayajaal will be pathetic if this ticket price ceiling becomes effective. Since it comes under some village panchayat, the maximum price will be fixed at Rs 15 and minimum at Rs 5!! As Marc says they surely will hike prices right from parking to peeing. The CEO of Mayajaal Entertainment says there are no ‘immediate’ plans to hike prices.

The multiplexes will run at a loss. I wouldn’t be surprised if the walls of the screens are lined with betel yucky stains. This in turn will lead only to more piracy.

Well, we shouldn’t actually let that bother us. All we need to do is increase the frequency of burning DVDs manifold. The services of Ragha and brothers Shrey and Shitik for their exotic hobby of collecting movies will be applauded as never before.

Hail Ragha, hail Piracy!

Edit: The Govt. revised the plans for the multiplexes taking into account the facilities offered by them. Bugger that.

New Year Illusions!

Here is a checklist of what I’m supposed to be doing this year.

FRENCH LANGUAGE CLASSES:

I’ve really got the hang of the language mania, especially for French. Marc said he would enroll for one as well, although his insipid take - not to join during the holidays - misses me.

GRE:

I’m not clear whether I really need to take this test. It’s just a precautionary measure.

NIIT:

One of the bad decisions I’d been quite unfortunate to make. I got to sit for their exams to get a certificate the coming Jan and it’s in the way of other important things I need to care about.

PROJECT PREPARATION:

It’s a mini project to be submitted this semester. The lecturers say that this might tip the scales in your favour during Campus recruitments. A group of four in my class have decided on one which looks promising. Worth a try during the holidays.

PAPER PRESENTATION:

Again the lecturers say this is time of our four year term where we can present a paper without any apparent crunch. Actually I should have done it before but owing to the shortcomings of my college and their limited resources it couldn’t take off and neither did I have any idea.

GYM:

It’s just a thought that crossed my mind when I saw myself in the mirror after a particularly ‘less’ intense flu. I really don’t give a damn about my physical appearance (maybe a little) but it’s the dwindling stamina. I slouch in the classes badly and it’s a cause for concern.

BLOG:

I got to post on a regular basis and improve the appearance of the blog a lot which I intend to do during my holidays.

Internet enemies

http://www.rsf.org/article.php3?id_article=19603

Check the list of the countries which violate the online freedom of expression of their netizens. They have been tagged ‘The internet enemies’ as they limit access to sites, filter internet traffic, harass the Bloggers and so on. The countries are rather obvious. Those which oppose Mr. Bush or indirectly America have been listed. And God bless you Marc, you’re in India.

My blog! At last!

Day monday,19:23.
I’m blogging! And a perfect day to start too. My friend, Marc set this blog up for me…. And he claims to be generous to host other’s blogs (Ampli5.org),which makes me feel i’m used as a test subject in his…in his…path to world domination and dictatorship!

Anyway, today, our college department gave us a schedule of special classes to attend to finish the portions off before the model exams. Nothing surprising, this, in my ‘hospital - turned - college’. We have endured far more worse than this - sharing laboratories with the sister college, SRM Easwari on SUNDAYS - in our previous semesters. But the department always comes up with something novel, in its ways of putting students to extreme agony. This time, the classes are to be held after regular hours. No bus service, whatsoever, for the poor day scholars. And the reason why they weren’t able to finish, well, before this? B’cause, we had a lousy symposium which apparently slowed their pace a lot, which is as lame as anything can sound.

I also had an appointment with the dentist, for the monthly tightening of my braces, today. And he has switched Hindu with deccan Chronicle in the waiting room! I don’t know why i hate DC. B’cause of Marc, being a DC sympathizer? maybe. But anyway what I realized was that, dentistry is a lucrative career. You gotta fix, drill, fill, plaster and knock off a few teeths. Not as easy as it sounds anyway, but, better than what I am doing now.

Why the hell did I go for Engineering! And Marc, Engineering is not a punishment it’s far more worse than that.
